Women on their move
“Women on their Move” reflects about the feminization of migration focusing on its emotional side. The project reflects about the expectations that immigrants build about the destination country. For Rodríguez an expectation is a belief that centers on the future, it is not something tangible, it is a thought created in the mind which may be realistic or not. The gap in between the belief and the reality is what interests her the most.
Through film and photography Rodríguez portrayed five women from different cultural backgrounds that live and work in Hamburg, Germany. She photographed their working spaces aiming to present it as their wished reality. Image and text compose four photography portraits and the portrait of Victoria was realized through film.
The film "Victoria" portraits the story of a woman that emigrated from Greece to Germany during the time when jobs were offered to workers in the 60's. She and her husband decided to start a new business with the desire to have a new beginning in Hamburg.
